Buying a car

What an adventure it has been buying a car here in Cambodia.  We have been looking for about a month off and on.  Jesse has been looking for us and has been a big help as always.  Used cars are pretty expensive here because of taxes. If you buy a new car the price doubles to pay the taxes.  There was a $8000 import tax on the 2002 Highlander we bought.  We went down to the office here to ask advice of the owners of our building who drive big expensive cars. We thought they would know where we could go to get a fair deal. They said "when do you want to go"? So we went with them the next day - the owner of our building and his 14 year old son who acted as translator and their driver went looking at cars together.  They are very wealthy and very nice people.  So we could had to choose a car that day with them!  But hopefully we have selected a car that will be good for us while we are here. We will have to sell it when it is time to go home. We tried to get along without a car by using Tuk tuks and having Jesse take us around some days in his family's car.  Riding in a Tuk Tuk can be enjoyable but you have to put up with all the fumes from so many cars in heavy traffic and it is always blowing dirt in your eyes too.  It will be a lot easier not to have to depend on others when we have to go somewhere, however, driving here is pretty nerve wracking. There are rules that don't mean much. Intersections are usually a big game of chicken. Everyone is very patient and it seems to work most of the time.
