Wheelchair Training Ceremony

This morning we went to the wheelchair facility that we visited before to be part of the opening ceremony for some days of training. Several men who are in wheelchairs will now be trained to help fit wheelchairs to people who need them. The woman who will do the training travels all over the world to teach.  Wheelchairs need to be fitted right so a person's back is not injured by a poorly fitting wheelchair. They love to have ceremonies here and there were several speeches made. The largest amount of money donated for this project came from USAid which means the American taxpayers. I love to see my tax dollars actually doing something good!  We spent some time with the director of USAid here in Cambodia. He is from upstate New York and is here with his family of four kids for 3 years. He was interesting to talk to and a good contact for us.  

Last week we went to the US embassy to meet the US ambassador. He was very cordial and good to talk to. He told us about several projects that the embassy is involved with to help the people here. He seemed especially interested in schooling and jobs for the young people. It is really hard for young people to get jobs and they don't always see a bright future for themselves. We hope to have a continuing relationship with the ambassador. He said there were several people we should meet and he will send us contact information.
