Nokor Tep Benefit

This past week there was a cycling benefit to raise money for the Nokor Tep Women's Hospital that is under construction. It is being sponsored by Tabitha Cambodia. They are working so hard to raise the money to build this hospital. 70% of women in Cambodia don't have access to medical care and their needs are great. We became aware of this project in helping promote the Young Ambassadors performance here. 

The riders rode 1000 kilometers over a 4 day period. The riders are all foreigners and some are repeat riders in this annual event. This is now the third year and each year has more riders. The conditions are daunting here. Heat, bad roads, ongoing construction and some detours because of flooding. We went to the hospital site where the ride was to finish with other Tabitha supporters and also Phavi and Sieng who are co-sponsors of the hospital. Phavi is the Minister of Women's Affairs and Sieng is the Vice governor of Phnom Penh. We met them when the YA were here and take an opportunity to see them again whenever we can. They have become very good friends and Sieng told us we need to stay in Cambodia permanently and we could live in one of the villas that will be built for the doctors who will work at the hospital. Such wonderful, kind people. What a privilege to call them our friends. 

We waited in as much shade as we could while the riders were coming and then had a great time after the ride as they were celebrating their accomplishment. Very generous of them to come to Cambodia to help raise money.
