We welcomed the Young Ambassadors to Cambodia in Siem Reap on Saturday May 10 about 10 pm. They brought so much extra luggage because we were not able to bring their large truck full of equipment into the country. We tried for several weeks to figure out how to get their stuff across the border but with no success. The first problem was that Cambodia does not have an international agreement to ship things across the border. The truck would have had to be unloaded at the border and everything counted and taxed. The second problem was that it was Saturday and the workers would not move freight on the weekend. Then it would have had to be reloaded on Wednesday and that is in the middle of a 3 day Kings Birthday holiday and no one loads freight. These issues should have been addressed before the freight left the US and they just assumed that the local people could figure it out. An impossible task for us here. So ...... In came lots of extra baggage and there was not enough room in the bins below the buses. So here we are at 10 pm with no way to load it all up. The bus company was contacted and they sent another old bus with some of the seats out to take all the stuff to their hotel. They were great on such short notice.
Church was so great on Sunday with the YA there. It sounded like a wonderful choir in the audience. There was also a group of MBA people from BYU so they had about 80 extra people there. The Branch did such a wonderful job accommodating so many extra people and translating for everyone. The YA went to Angkor Wat after church with a box lunch made by the branch president's wife. They returned for a fireside in the evening. The music was wonderful for a chapel full of visitors. One crazy thing was an event going on across the street from the chapel at the same time - "The Voice, Cambodia". They had the music so LOUD that we could feel the ground vibrationing in the Church. Typical of the Cambodians to really crank up the volume.
It was also Mothers Day and the Primary kids went into Relief Society and sang for their Mom's and Sister Loy made a cake for the Mom's. Great day.
